Make Someone's Day

What is all this talk about Sneak Attacks? If you have never been to one, you are in for a treat!

Twice a week we choose 'victims' - new Etsy shops who have little or no sales, and we surprise them with purchases, views and hearts.

Why do we do this? Because it's fun, we love surprises. But that's not the only reason. We remember what it's like to start a new endeavor and take a long time for people to notice us. It takes a lot of work to get going in any kind of business, and then you sit there and wait for the first person to walk in the door, or contact you via email, or purchase something from you.

The Etsy community is very large. Shops reside all over the world. With such a large number, sometimes the newest and smallest shops kind of get lost in the shuffle. So we, the Sneak Team, search out those new shops to introduce them to you and bring their craft, art and supplies to your attention, in the hopes you will find something you MUST have!

To date there have been over 277 Sneak Attacks on a total of 673 shops, resulting in 5181 sales! Come be part of the excitement and discovery!

Come join us and chat with us at our Sneak Attack thread We guarantee you will have lots of fun!

Meet Summer

We have a brand new sponsor for our Sneak Attack today! We love new sponsors.... it's so much fun to be a sponsor and be able to surprise everyone with wonderful new Etsy 'victims'. And besides that - a sponsor knows the shops and loves keeping a secret until Sneak Attack time, which today is 2pm!

Our sponsor today is Summer from Summer Wilson 8

Summer, herself, was a Sneak Attack 'victim' back in July and she loved it so much that she has been participating ever since.

Says Summer My mother always tells me that 'you make your own happiness" and that 'laughter is the best medicine". No matter what is going on in my life, if I see someone else having a hard time, I will try to make them laugh to help them feel better.

And what better way to make new Etsy shop owners feel better - than to help them get sales, views and hearts during our Sneak Attacks!

Summer teaches dance, and has just the necklace in her shop to celebrate it!

Be sure to visit Summer's shop and then come on over and chat with us at our Sneak Attack thread! Lots of fun...

Meet LaBeq

Beq from LaBeq became the captain of our Sneak Attack team at the beginning of this year. And she is doing a great job!

I recently asked her how she got involved in the Sneak Attacks.

Her answer:
I can't quite remember! By the time I came across the sneak attacks, I had already done similar things on my own, seeking out people with no sales to buy from. But I like having the organized group effort now!

A number of months ago, I purchased a pair of LaBeq's bobbin lace earrings. This is a craft not normally seen, and they are gorgeous! You will find that LaBeq has several colors that she uses - want to find out more about bobbin lace - see LaBeq's policy page

Here's a pair that I really love!

Check out the other earrings and more at LaBeq's shop and then come chat with us during our thread today before the Sneak Attack tonite that will start at 7pm.

Meet LaRue and Budd

I'm so excited about our Sneak Attack today! We have a husband and wife team sponsoring.

We have LaRue of LaRue Fashions and Budd of Budds Photo

We have met LaRue before. A gal, who like me, has an obsession for yarn! And many of the items in her shop reflect the wonderful creative use of that yarn. She has items for your kitchen and bath, adult items made of yarn and the cutest children's hats too! I love this one...

Budd is a wonderful photographer. Budd started out collecting tintypes and soon after fell in love with actually taking the pictures. After several years of taking 'people' pictures, Budd decided to concentrate his efforts on nature.

Right now Doug is in college, so his shop is kind of bare - but I wanted to show you his amazing talent - in one of his sold photographs!

Our sneak attack starts at 2pm today - very early in the day! This is great because it gives international Etsy people the chance to join us for lots of fun - before they go to sleep :D It also provides lots of time for you to browse the shops of our 'victims' all day long.

Be sure to check out LaRue and Doug's shops and then join us in our sneak attack thread to find out what clues our sponsors are giving us!

Meet Castle

Have you met Castle yet? She is sponsoring the Sneak Attack for tonite, and she always has such wonderful 'victims' I expect that tonight will be no exception :D

Castle from Castle Co has been making handmade soap for quite some time, and loves what she is doing. Something that I didn't realize is that handmade soap takes time to 'cure'. Says Castle: Curing time is between 4-8 weeks and scents/appearance change during that time. It's interesting to see the end result since there were some batches I didn't think started off very well, but surprised me as time went by

As much as I like Castle's cucumber soap, I think the pumpkin one will bring back memories of family gatherings.

What is your favorite soap in Castle's shop? When you have decided, come chat with us at our Sneak Attack thread today!

And don't forget to fill out our Handmade Movement survey. Help us make the Handmade Movement and Sneak Attacks better. Include your email address for a chance to win a gift certificate too!

Met LaBeq and Stock

Woo Hoo - we have 2 sponsors today for our sneak attack! And our sneak attack today starts at 6pm.

Our first sponsor is Beqi from LaBeq Bobbin lace, woodwork, and other pretty things!

While trying to figure out what to tell you about LaBeq - I went and read her profile. Wow - such a wide variety of skills and creations. LaBeq does beautiful bobbin lace. And woodworking - you need to see all stunning items like this one - something as simple as a hairstick hand turned and sanded.

Stock from Stock Annette has been a frequent sponsor and in addition to adorable baby knitted hats, Stock has volunteered to give away one $20.00 gift certificate from a drawing that will be held on 1 April, 2011 - to enter you just need to complete this Handmade Movement Survey and supply your email address.

Meet WMS

Have you met Heather from Wine Makers Sister yet?

She is sponsoring today's Sneak Attack at 5pm Etsy time!

As her name implies, she runs the business end of the wine making business for her family. With all that going on, she still finds time to create adorable stitch markers for her knitting friends! Like these:

When I asked Heather:

If you could think of one thing that you would like to do with your shop that you haven't done so far, what would it be?

this was her answer:

I don't have any lofty ideas for it... I really enjoy seeing how customers respond to my work and using that as an inspiration. I started my shop with general items and have slowly moved toward more and more knitting/spinning-related stuff. It fits my interests well (I adore knitting and spinning) and the fiber community seems to really like being able to purchase little gifts like mugs and stitch markers that fit with their interests.

Now I won't tell you what creations Heather is thinking about making for her shop, but you can be sure you will love them!

Join us tonite at 5pm for the Sneak Attack and come chat with us at our thread!
