Blast from the Sneak Attack Past July 16, 2014

Hi there, now it´s time again to visit a victim from the past. This time I was visiting HadynsHair and was totally blown away, when I saw all her cute hair accessories. A dream to all girls, small as big with an inner princess. I asked Jillian how the sneak attack the 9/29/2011 affected her shop.

I was very active for the year after your sneak attack... selling the perfect amount of items.... people were great to work with and I really enjoyed it. I then had to put my shop on the back burner because I started teaching and couldn't do a GREAT job with my classroom as well as my shop... So my shop sat for about a year. I recently started my shop up again and am feeling like I was when I FIRST started up my shop. (5-6 views a day :( ) So many things have changed.... I spent hours tagging and researching before and I am doing the same thing again....kind of a bummer... BUT I am driven and WILL be selling like I was before I had to close shop :-)

How did the sneak attack affect your shop?
It was really what got the ball rolling. I was very excited to get a couple of sales and more views....

What was your reaction to the sneak attack?
I was very surprised. This Etsy community is very helpful and I appreciate all of you.

Are you selling on other venues?
Just Etsy!

Comments you would like us to pass on to the team?
I appreciate all of your hard work! Thank you, thank you !

We wish HadynsHair so much luck with the reopening, and if you love hair stuff you should take your time and visit Jillian´s shop.

Thank you for reading and wish you a good day.

This month I had the pleasure of chatting with Nancy from SparkleyExpressions, her shop was Sneak Attacked on October 24, 2011. Nancy creates gorgeous crochet items, everything you can think of; from hats, photo props, booties, to headbands. Her shop is lovely!

These fox hats are my favorites! I asked Nancy how her shop is doing now and what she thought of the Sneak Attack, here's what she shared;

My shop had not done much until the sneak attack an after that it did start increasing.
I was pleasantly surprised and excited to see the interest in my shop.
I am only selling on Etsy. I do have a facebook page an have sold in boutiques and craft shows.
I think the Handmade Movement Team is a great thing for new shops to help them get noticed, however I wasn't good at remembering to get on an help others, so unfortunately I was dropped from the team.
Thank you for all you do!!

I'm happy to hear that! Today SparkleyExpressions has over 300 sales, way to go Nancy. Good Luck with your shop. Love this idea for newborn pictures, what an adorable little turtle.

Stop by SparkleyExpressions to pick a few favorites of your own.

Until next time,

Meet Theresa and Judy

Theresa from KraftyGrannysHome and Judy from sljbridal are co-hosting the sneak attack today at 4pm.

Theresa is a frequent sponsor and a member for almost 3 years, Judy a long time member. They make a great team!!

I thought I'd tell you why these two wonderful ladies joined our team - way back when.

Says Theresa:

When I got Sneaked (Nov 03, 2011) it just thrilled me so much, after joining the Handmade Movement group it was great sneaking and trying to figure out what shops it might be (like a game) and I love games. These are just the best group of people I feel like I've known them my entire life.

Theresa is indeed Krafty - check out this adorable blanket that she has just finished.

Says Judy:

When I first started my Etsy shop (1st shop started 5 years ago), I knew nothing (about the same as today, lol)! I had never participated in a forum but I had read that social networking would get my shop 'seen'. I lurked for the first couple of Sneak Attacks and listened to the personalities of the Sneakers. I finally got the courage to say "hi" and as is the way with Sneakers, things just evolved from there. It just feels so good to give others encouragement and sometimes I spend more than I should but as we all warn others, it is addicting! What a good addiction to have!

Judy loves all things that have to do with shells. And she makes the most wonderful items for the bride! But let's not forget the groom - for a beach wedding, this boutonniere is 'heavenly'.

You will ooh and ahh over all the creations that these two members have in their shops. It will be a hard choice to choose just one item :D

With both of these gals in charge today - I know we will have a super Sneak Attack!! Be sure to come on over to our Sneak Attack thread and see what's in store.

Instead of our usual Monday SNEAK ATTACK
we are doing a HEART ATTACK!

What is a HEART ATTACK?
The Handmade Movement Team on Etsy scours Etsy on the first Monday of the month to find new and fairly new shops and shops with low sales but may not have been eligible for our regular SNEAK ATTACKS. For example they may have higher prices than we have set in our Team Criteria or a few more sales than we normally look for. Once members find the shops, they list them in our thread www.etsy.com/teams/7565/handmademovement/discuss/14857515/ and everyone gives the shops hearts and promotes them in various ways. Some members also make treasuries using the list to help promote many shops at one time.  It's lots of fun and helps give shops a boost.

You don't have to be a team member to play. Just drop by the thread at your leisure, click on shops you like and give them lots of HEARTS and if you have time promote them through your social media and maybe if you see something you really like, make a purchase! Most of all have fun!

Blast from the Sneak Attacks Past July 2, 2014

This week I visited Charlenes Place, who have great crocheted dish, washcloth and potholders, which will give your kitchen a lovely vintage and retro look.

I asked Charlene how the sneak attack affected her shop?
I really appreciated the attack. I get 4 or 5 orders that did surprise me.

What was your reaction to the sneak attack?
It was a confidence builder. I did not think I had anything that anyone would like, but I got great feedback which felt great.

Are you selling on other venues?
My shop wasn't really meant to be a booming business. It is a hobby for me and it was never meant as a means of support. I like to crochet and it an excuse to do it now.
I make enough orders to cover all my costs and labor with some extra.
I don't sell on other venues or utilize social media. It's not something I really need. I have enough orders that suit me. It's at a fun pace for me.

Comments you would like us to pass on to the team?
It think it's great what you do.

Thank you Charlene, it was a pleasure to visit you again. And you dear readers should head over to Charlenes Place and see much more great crochet.

See you soon.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Pat from FreehandCards, she creates gorgeous works of art on cards, posters, pendants, jewelry, and original one of a kind paintings. FreehandCards opened October 7, 2010 and was Sneak Attack by the Handmade Movement, they received 9 sales from the Attack.

I asked Pat how the Sneak Attack effected her shop, this is what she shared;

The sneak attack was the most thrilling and motivating thing to happen to me on Etsy since I have opened my shop. To have people from all over the world notice, buy and fav my images was such a boost personally. As far as my shop, it moved my sales number up right away, which looked good on my shop page. It also gave me an idea of which images were popular, for considering the future direction I might take in my artwork. The sales boom didn't last, though.

I am not selling on any other online venues, but do sell to a few local shops.

I am happy to hear from you again. My sales have been very slow, but steady. I think of the feelings I had when I was 'attacked' and look forward to the day when that rate of sales is a regular event. So, it serves as a reminder of what is possible.

My about page is almost ready to post. I am going to revise the intention of my shop toward the preservation of the giraffe habitat, which will help put me in a 'niche'. I think that will help differentiate my shop from other "Hallmark" card shops. Hope so!

Many thanks again, I'm impressed with your follow-up and the team work.

That's so wonderful to hear, I'm happy that our team can help and makes a difference. These dancing Giraffes are so cute, it was hard to choose one to share. Thank you Pat for letting me revisit your shop, I wish you much success. Check out FreehandCards to find a few favorites of your own.

Until text time,
